High School Students at Mahoning Courthouse to accept Holocaust contest certificates for awards

Boardman High School students in grades 9–12 from Mrs.Basista, Mrs. McCabe, and Mrs. Safarek’s classes were honored at the 33rd Annual Holocaust Writing, Art, & Multimedia Contest, hosted by the Jewish Community Relations Council of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation on April 14, 2026.

With over 150 entries submitted from across the region, BHS students stood out—earning an impressive number of awards and recognitions.

This year’s theme invited students to reflect on the role and impact of family and community in the lives of Holocaust victims and survivors—before, during, and, for those who survived, after the Holocaust. Through powerful and thoughtful submissions, students explored how family served as a source of strength, resilience, and, at times, profound loss, while honoring the lasting impact on individuals and their loved ones.
