OH Tax Free Holiday Aug. 7-9 with school supplies and sparty

Spartan Families, as you prepare for the upcoming school year, don’t forget that Ohio’s traditional three-day sales tax holiday returns August 7-9, 2026.

The tax-free holiday begins at 12:00 a.m. on Friday, August 7, and ends at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, August 9. Qualifying purchases include:

  • Clothing: General wearing apparel, including shoes, pants, shirts and coats, priced at $75 or less per item.

  • School supplies: Items such as notebooks, pencils, pens, binders and lunch boxes priced at $20 or less per item.

  • School instructional materials: Textbooks, workbooks and reference books priced at $20 or less per item.

This year, Ohio has returned to the traditional three-day tax holiday rather than the expanded 10-day holiday offered in recent years. The change follows new state legislation that eliminated the expanded holiday and higher price limits.
