A BIG Congratulations to Boardman teacher Melanie Oberle--Who will be among an amazing group of educators across the Valley, honored on March 3rd!!

Melanie's sparkling personality and caring nature has made an enormous impact for hundreds of k-3 students who come to school speaking little to no English. This year they represent 17 countries with nearly a dozen different languages and dialects. A teacher for 17 years, she ensures that her students integrate and celebrate their diverse backgrounds!!

More than 200 fifth graders at Boardman Center Intermediate School had an out-of-this-world experience connecting with Boardman alum and NASA structural engineer Nick Mastramico during two virtual learning sessions!

Students loved learning about the Artemis mission—including the fact that four astronauts will spend 10 days in a spacecraft about the size of a minivan 😲. Nick shared how the rocket is designed, the many safety checks before launch, and what it’s like working behind the scenes on NASA’s next trip to the Moon.

Nick also told students he knew he wanted to work for NASA when he was in 6th grade—and that he truly loves his job today at Marshall Space Flight Center.

His message to students: Dream big, discover what you enjoy, and lean into what you do well. 🌟
You never know where those dreams might take you!
